Named for the split rails that adorn the fence lines of the Staff family property, and are found throughout Niagara where Gamay has achieved international acclaim. This fruit-driven wine with underlying spices and oak is an elegant accompaniment to duck and other game meats, Coq au Vin and chocolate covered cherries.
I have always been inspired by, and appreciated, Village-styled Beaujolais. They have so much character and dimension. I have long wanted to add an elegant, light-bodied red to the portfolio and when the opportunity came to make a Gamay (which wouldn't break my heart the way Pinot Noir so easily could), I jumped at it.
Vinified from Gamay grown here in the 20 Valley, we purposefully made this wine to be fruit-focused with approachable tannins. It's DELICIOUS with game meats (especially duck) and/or pork (especially when paired with savoury fruit sauces), cassoulet, seared tuna, egg dishes or just a wedge of good Gruyere.
