SILVER MEDAL, 2022 FINGER LAKES INTERNATIONAL WINE COMPETITION
The 2020 Bank Barn Baco Noir is a rich, round, and intense Baco. Juicy black cherry and creamy milk chocolate aromatics explode from the glass. Bank Barn Baco Noir feels soft and smooth in the mouth because Baco has little tannin on its own, and Sue-Ann vinified the wine without oak aging. Look for luscious baked cherry and plum flavours with a hint of zippy red currant.
2020's hot, dry conditions created intensely concentrated fruit. We harvest the Baco in early September and processed the fruit through a "flash unit” The flash unit heats the whole berries to 80°C to rupture each berry’s outer cells, releasing the colour. We made this wine entirely in stainless steel, allowing the full expression of varietal and vintage characteristics. Savour on its own or serve with BBQ ribs, pasta in a fresh tomato sauce, or charcuterie.
- Appearance: Semi-opaque. Purple core.
- Nose: Violets, black cherry, ripe dark berry fruit (blackberry, black currant), leather, earth, green vegetal note, and a hint of mint.
- Palate: Medium acid, medium tannin, medium body. Just off-dry. Licorice, cherry, raspberry, plum, blackberry, green herbs. Well-balanced.
- Quality: Outstanding. 90 points. Drink now or hold 1 – 2 years. Tony Aspler
