Robert's Block Riesling is a single vineyard wine originating from the oldest block of Riesling on the estate, named in honour of Sue-Ann's Great-Great-Great Grandfather, Robert Staff.

Robert's Block Riesling is an outstanding expression of Ontario Riesling.

Vinified from the oldest block of Riesling (25 year old vines) in the Staff vineyards, Sue-Ann only makes Robert's Block in years that are particularly good for the varietal. 2018 was a very warm year, so we harvested Riesling early to retain acidity and aromatics in the fruit. The vines produced tiny berries that year, with exceptional flavor and dimension, making them perfect for Robert's Block.

The result is a rich, complex, Riesling. The 2018 Robert's Block is ripe with spring flowers, honeyed stone fruit, bright apple, and wet stone on both the nose and palate. The wine is rich in texture, with a long finish and a balancing thread of minerality throughout.

“This is the best Riesling I have tasted this year so far, not even close: incredible depth with superb freshness and complexity. The wine opens up with aromas of chamomile and ripe lemon while getting a hint of pineapple. There is a spectacular minerality and the very high acidity counters the residual sugar to almost a bone-dry finish. Flavours of citrus and green apple are dominant but not to discount the ginger, honeycomb and stone fruit. The outstanding texture and never-ending finish are two features taking this wine to the next level. Serve chilled for freshness and cellar temperature for extreme complexity with a meal. I’m already looking forward to the next vintage….WOW.”
