Winter Warmer

Cold temps call for big wines -- here's a lovely six bottle pack of our biggest whites and reds!

  • 2018 Elisha's Chardonnay      A spectacular example of crisp, juicy, Ontario Chardonnay. Absolutely brimming with heritage apple notes on the nose and just-ripe pear on the palate. The ideal companion for cheese boards, rustic pâtés, slow roasted porkbelly or homemade mac & cheese.

  • 2018 Mabel's VCR Viognier Chardonnay Riesling      A unique blend of three bold varietals. Each wine was vinified separately and blended just before bottling, with the Viognier and Chardonnay elements spending time in barrel.  Fascinating wine, ideal for pairing with hearty winter fare...cheese fondue or raclette spring immediately to mind! Suggestions of preserved lemon, sweet alyssum and just a hint of oak on the nose. Citrus and baked apple notes continue on the palate, which is dry, firm and slightly rounded on the mid-palate and then distinctly lean on the finish. A flinty or slate-like element runs throughout the wine.

  • 2018 The Louie Pinot Gris      100% estate grown fruit from the Staff vineyards, located in the Vinemount Ridge sub-appellation. Hand-picked and whole cluster pressed in a one-ton basket press before fermentation and aging in French and American oak. A sleek, full-bodied, robust Gris, with notes of warm vanilla and poached pear on the nose. In the mouth, the wine is round, smooth and weighty, with suggestions of baked apples, spice, and a hint of citrus zest. Outstanding on its own, but even better with cheese & charcuterie, roast poultry or pork, or the classic Alsatian-style flammekueche (bacon and onion flatbread).

  • 2018 Mountain Bell Merlot     Velvety, medium-bodied Merlot, showing cassis, plum and cherry notes on the nose and palate. Fermented in stainless steel and aged in oak for 20 month, this wine's smooth tannins, dry fruit notes and subtle acidity make it an ideal pairing with pan-seared duck or duck rillette, rabbit terrine or other game meat dishes, hard cheeses or a bar of good quality medium dark chocolate.

  • 2019 Gritstone Cabernet     Vinified from 100% estate grown Cabernet franc. Barrel-aged 20 months in a selection of American and European oak. Big cherry kirsch, baked berry, warm spice and wood notes on the nose. Punchy with dark fruit and wisps of complex herbal notes (fennel fronds, perhaps), spice, leather and cassis on the palate. Ideal with beef, venison, pan-seared duck breast, and cassoulet.

  • 2017 The Chestnut Tree Cabernet Franc     This big daddy of a Cab Franc was vinified from 100% estate grown Cabernet Franc (10+ year old vines), aged 22 months in French and American oak. Big, bold, balanced. The nose is rich with plum, blackberry, dark cherry and currant, the fruit tempered by suggestions of cedar. This alluring combination of ripe fruit and muscular wood continues on the palate, joined by a hint of the spice cabinet. A wine to be sipped and savoured on its own, or paired with strong cheeses, red meats, robust stews and soups.
