Introducing the Uncle Pinot: Grigio & Gris Duo!
Our guests often ask about the difference between our Pinot Grigio and Pinot Gris at the winery. To answer that question, we've created this dynamic duo! Shop now to experience how the same grape makes two very different wines.
Our Uncle Pinot: Grigio & Gris Duo is a perfect pair of dry white wines. Although we vinified both from hand-picked fruit grown in the same 13-row block of Gris here on the estate, you will find that that's where the similarities end!
2021 The Lenny Pinot Grigio: This wine went through a slow, cold ferment in stainless steel. Bright and vibrant, it's a delicious, dry white that suggests apple, pear, citrus, and gooseberry. Sue-Ann makes her Grigio in cooler years to emulate the style of Italian Pinot Grigio.
2019 The Louie Pinot Gris (NEW RELEASE): the fruit was whole-cluster pressed in Sue-Ann's one-ton basket press here at the winery, before fermentation and aging in French and American oak. It's a complex, weighty, round white. Expect notes of heritage apple, lemon oil, warm vanilla, and clean wood on the nose and palate. Sue-Ann makes her Gris in warmer years to emulate the style of Alsatian Pinot Gris.
But why call it "Uncle Pinot"?
Sue-Ann named these two wines for a pair of Great Great Uncles. Uncles Leonard (Lenny) and Lewis (Louie) were born only 11 months apart in the same calendar year (1923)! Despite their closeness in age, Lenny and Louie grew up to be very different men! One was round, and one was lean, and it was just too tempting to name these two very different Pinots for them!
